GEL-X™

POLLAK
has developed a prophylactic lubricating gel known as Gel-X™ which serves as a solution for both male and female, each of them independently, in the prevention of transmission of Sexual Transmitted Diseases (S.T.D’s). Its main purpose is to destroy HIV; Herpes Simplex Virus; Cytomegalovirus; Hepatitis B, and other bacteria that might be transferred during intercourse. The product is an antiseptic lubricating gel, for use as a sexual lubricant, whilst simultaneously preventing the transmission of S.T.D's. The Company has applied for and possesses patent protection for the product and its applications.

Laboratory experiments (In Vitro) have proven that the active antiseptic in Gel-X™ destroys the outer surface of the virus, thus preventing its penetration into the cell. Due to its excellent lubricating qualities, Gel-X™ reduces the tendency of tearing blood vessels during intercourse. The interposition of the gel between both sexual members, and the fact that it is present in the body fluids during intercourse, prevents the transference of the virus to body tissues.

As a lubricant, Gel-X™ eases penetration during intercourse. It is water soluble, and will only dissolve completely when washed away with water, and is therefore present throughout the entire sexual act. Gel-X™ is not a medicine, and does not destroy HIV already present in the body cells. The product provides options for both Male and Female. The male applies Gel-X™ either by insertion of the erect organ into the sachet of Gel-X™ or by manual application of the gel onto the organ. For the female, Gel-X™ is inserted into the vagina by using an applicator. Gel-X™ is the only existing microbicide gel which can be controlled independently by the female. Gel-X™ is not meant as a replacement for the condom, but rather as an additional precautionary measure, especially in high-risk situations, where additional safety precautions are indicated. In cases where condoms are not used, Gel-X™ serves a definite purpose.

Gel-X™
has been clinically tested In Vivo under the direction and supervision of two highly reputed professors in the fields of Gynecology, Obstetrics and Immunology in one of Israel's first class hospitals and consequently recommended by them for use. Later, it was also confirmed and recommended for use by an independent committee of medical experts attached to Israel's largest medical Fund. In November 1993, Company representatives were invited to an Emergency Closed Meeting on "Vaginal Microbicides for the Prevention of Heterosexual Transmission of HIV," convened by the World Health Organization (WHO) in Geneva. Gel-X™ complies with the recommendations and specifications laid out by the WHO at this convention.
