The Dialysis Tray
More Information

Use of Euroband Dialysis Tray prevents spreading of Hepatitis C in hemodialysis.

Long term use of Dialysis Kits has resulted in the prevention of the Hepatitis C contamination amongst Dialysis patients and their medical attendants.

A preliminary comparison was conducted between 3 major Israeli hospitals where the kit is used on a regular basis, and 3 Israeli hospitals, which have not yet adopted the use of the kit.

Results show that in hospitals using the kits, the virus has been contained, and no new occurrences have been registered. Contrary to the above, hospitals which have not yet adopted the use of the kit, have shown a growth in the number of carriers of the virus.

For the purpose of this comparison, a three year period of informal observation was used as a means of comparison (from the first half of 1995, up until August 1998.) Dialysis units each consisting of 20 to 25 dialysis stations, working three shifts per day were observed.

In three hospitals, where the kit is used regularly, it was found that since commencement of use of the kit, no further incidences of “Cross Infection” were noted. Furthermore, no new carriers of Hepatitis C antibodies were admitted to the departments. It was noted that medical attendants were free of infection and/or contamination. Average percentages of Hepatitis C antibodies carriers in the above 3 hospitals are from 3%, to 8%.

Three hospitals where the dialysis kit is not yet in use, (identity of these hospitals known to us) previously registered average Hepatitis C carriers of less than 10% in the first half of 1995. Present Hepatitis C antibodies carriers registered in these hospitals averages over 25%.

The above comparison strengthens the assumption that a sterile, comprehensively equipped, user-friendly kit contributes greatly to the prevention of “Cross Infection” during the hemodialysis on/off procedure(1,2), and is a major factor in stopping contamination of medical attendants(3) by their patients.
