(#1058) ACCEPTED AND RECOMMENDED METHOD OF PROCEDURE 1. EVA gloves - to be worn by attendant/assistant whilst preparing patient for the procedure. 2. Polybacked Towel - spread open with plastic surface downwards, absorbent side facing upwards - for use as a sterile field. Turn the open tray upside down, spilling all components out onto the sterile field. Do not discard empty tray which will be used later. 3. Remove red strip from adhesive flap of waste disposal bag, and by means of the adhesive flap, attach waste disposal bag to edge of work surface, with top edges open to receive discarded used items. 4. Fenestrated Towel - spread open with plastic surface on the skin of the patient, drape over the area to be treated. 5. Remove EVA gloves, and replace with Latex Gloves to be worn throughout the procedure. 6. Disinfectant Sachet:
Male: With help of gauze pad, grip the penis and
thoroughly disinfect the penis glans by means of swab sticks
(or
Gauze Tupfer and
Lift Forceps when using other
antiseptic solution), working in circular movements from the tip
downwards. 7. Pedicat™ lubricating antiseptic gel - for use as described above. 8. By means of Flowclamp™, seal off opposite end of catheter. 9. Grip the organ with the second gauze swab, and insert catheter (Lift Forceps can assist with insertion of lubricated catheter). 10. Place PVC tray (set aside in 2 above) at end of Catheter; release the Flowclamp™ slightly to permit urine flow into the tray for urine collection/examination. 11. Tighten the Flowclamp™ again and connect the catheter to the urine bag and remove the Flowclamp™. 12. To inflate the balloon, connect the 10 cc syringe to the inflating section of the catheter. Ensure that the catheter is well secured. 13. Use the Tupfer to absorb any fluids. 14. Discard all used components and their packaging into the open waste disposal bag; seal the bag by means of its adhesive flap, and dispose of the bag.
